Wolf Statue - Looking Around!

This wolf has its feet on a stump as it checks its surroundings. What's happening?

A pack of wolves is made up of the mom and dad plus their children. Other wolves may join the pack. The behavior most identified with wolves is howling. Perhaps, this wolf statue is preparing to howl. The  stump is too "natural" to allow a plaque; so, no personalization.
