Each side of the Eagle Bookends is different. On the left side, you see an eagle atop a globe, depicting the world, with its wings a flutter. The right side has an eagle sitting on a limb of a tree.

The Great Horned Owl and the background of the tree coordinate perfectly. It's night time and this owl is awake and probably hungry. How is possible to have the owl match its surroundings so well? The Great Horned Owl has the widest range of any of our owls. Covered with extremely soft feathers that insulate them against the cold and help them fly very quietly in pursuit of prey. Their short, wide wings allow them to maneuver among the trees of the forest.

The Black Panther is an interesting animal. It's a genetic combination that is fairly rare. Let's begin with a leopard. The panther has a "recessive allele" of a leopard. Panther is essentially a leopard...just a different color. If you look closely, you can even see spots on the panther. But, that's not all. The panther also has a genetic connection to the jaguar. Instead of a "recessive" it has a "dominant allele." So, analyze this. The Black Panther has the leopard's body and the Jaguar's black color.

You can imagine how difficult it was to capture this moment on film. The bird is an owl, a great horned owl. All owls in North America have hidden ears accept the Great Horned Owl which has tufts on its head where the ears are. You can "feel" the air turbulance as this owl comes in to land next to you.
