Before laying eggs, these clever birds scatter animal dung all about the entrance to their subterranean burrows; the result? Their version of food delivery; troops of dung beetles and other insects come marching, which the owls then catch and eat without ever leaving home. It’s pretty clear that the owls are using the scat as bait: as soon as the supply runs out, they replace it.

The red fox is intelligent and loyal to its mate and pups. The female has between 1 and 12 pups. No wonder the adult fox has such a look in this photo! In the wild their lifespan is only 3-4 years.

Don't Mess Around With Me!

Laying on a log should be a restful scene; however, with its mouth wide open this Alligator counteracts that notion. Count his teeth! Alligators have great force with their mouth. In fact, the photographer who took this photo had EVERY bone in his foot broken by a baby alligator. Not good.

We cannot tell gender. The female Blue Jay is normally slightly smaller. If you spend much time with Blue Jays you will soon be able to identify each bird. No two jays are the same. Colors of feathers are different between two birds...but the final result looks so similar that most people think all jays look the same. Check out the white feathers between these two jays. There was a young woman walking down a deserted beach just before dawn. In the distance, she saw a frail old woman. As she approached the old woman, she saw her picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. The young woman gazed in wonder as the old woman again and again threw the small starfish from the sand to the water. 

She asked, "Old woman, why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?" The old woman explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. "But there must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish!" exclaimed the young woman.
