The long, graceful plumes on Great Egrets are called aigrettes. They grow from the shoulder area to trail over the back. Each aigrette is composed of about 35 strands of slim feathers. Both male and female change plumage. How can a mate resist???

A great egret has BLACK feet since it normally feeds by standing perfectly still. With black feet the prey do not see the feet.

An Upside Down Bald Eagle!!!

As a lifelong birder I have seen many bald eagles....however, only ONCE have I seen an eagle turn over and fly upside down! It's an amazing sight. Our photographer was lucky to also see a bald eagle turn over while flying and this photo is the result. Imagine the eagle with a possible wingspan of 6 FEET accomplishing this activity in air. 

We are showing this photo on the Inspirational page too. When have you thought to yourself, I can't do that. Let this bald eagle be your inspiration. Perhaps, it CAN be done!

Eagles do have "eagle eyes." They can see four to five times better than humans. This vision allows them to see small prey like rabbits as far as two miles away.

Pheasant Statue has a pheasant flying near to the ground. It's wings are extended, it's tail is fanned. The base has pieces of wood strewn on it. The feathers all over the pheasant have individual characteristics. Pheasants prefer to run and stay close to the ground. 

The origination of the pheasant is a couple of thousand years ago in Asia. They are fairly widespread in most continents today. The male pheasant is quite colorful while the female is quite drab. The male forms a harem of females.

Owl Bust has a bronze finish and is 8" High. Ever wonder why we consider owls as "smart"? In Greek mythology, the goddess Athene was thought to symbolize wisdom and was often shown with an owl near. 

As a birder, I'm assuming that the specific owl species shown in this bust is a Great Horned Owl. An owl that is native to North America and has a vast range. Owls are known for their silent flights and can slow to a speed of just 2 mph. Their eyes can see better at night than in the day.
